Being a sincere person, I must admit: I wouldn’t want to be in the shoes of someone who has a toenail infection! But I would surely tell them how to treat it fast & natural!

According to a 2009 study done by the University of Michigan, entitled “Management of the Ingrown Toenail”, approximately 20% of the patients presenting to a family physician suffer from ingrown toenails. Because this seemingly benign affection is usually ignored by most of us, bad things inevitably follow. Ingrown toenails can cause painful, draining and foul-smelling lesions and even worse – infectious and inflammatory processes.  Luckily, you can find below a smart & cheap solution to get rid of any toe or nail related problems!

When nail grows a mind of its own and starts hating you

The problem of ingrown toenails is also known as “Onychocryptosis “. A hard word to pronounce for a problem that can result in a lot of pain. Commonly found in adolescents and adults as well, it is usually located in the big toe. Probably to make you feel the pain even more intense (I’m joking, of course).

But trust me when I tell you (again), that this is no joke. Numerous people end up on the operating table in order to restore the normal growth of the nail. Many of them end up in this unpleasant position because they rely heavily on various home remedies. As you may already have found out, these types of remedies don’t always work.

An onion a day keeps the doctor away

Yes, we all know that pungent onion smell. And that onions can even make you cry a little (don’t worry, crying helps to eliminate toxins out of your body). But, as always here we only give scientifically proven advice. Read on.

According to numerous medical studies, onions contain quercetin, which acts as an antioxidant that may be linked to preventing cancer. But we will expand on the benefits of consuming onions in a future article.

Onions are also effective in treating infections, as proven by a study aptly entitled: “Onions – a global benefit of health!”, published by the National Institute of Health in 2002. Moreover, onions help reduce inflammations as well.

Treat your toe nail with an onion

The problem of an ingrown toenail can be easily treated with the use of onion. You can apply onion pulp on the infected toe to cure the infection. Onion juice can also be applied on the affected area to reduce the inflammation. Just for 30 seconds, or a little more if the infection is serious (and you can stand the smell, of course).

PS: Speaking of onions: “An onion can make people cry, but there’s never been a vegetable that can make people laugh!” So, have trust in the power of onions. Your feet will thank you!
